Fee: Y-Members are $6.50.  Non-Members are $28.00. (These are prices for Summer Sessions) If a non-member joins we will put $28.00 towards their membership fees.

Infant/Toddler Classes:

The Geary Family YMCA offers a wide range of skill level classes for infants and toddlers based on their abilities. Your child can build skills and advance through the levels of accomplishment to become a strong swimmer.

Please bring your child to the specific classes they are signed up for. Bringing them at other times may overcrowd an already full class .

All swim lessons have the following 5 components:

  • Personal Safety
  • Stroke Development
  • Personal Growth
  • Water Sports
  • Games and Rescues

Perch/Shrimp: 
Age: 6 months – 3 years of age.
Attendee: This is a parent/child class. Parent must accompany child in the water.
Times: Monday 5:00-5:30pm

Eels/Rays:
Age: 3-5 years of age – combined class.
Attendee:  This class is for beginners who are cautious around the water & children who are comfortable in water, starting to swim on their own.
Times: Monday 10:30 – 11:00am OR Wednesday 4:30-5:00pm

Eels:
Age: 3-5 years of age.
Attendee:  This class is for beginners who are cautious around the water.
Times: Monday 4:00 – 4:30pm

Rays:

Ages: 3-5 years of age
Attendee: Children who are comfortable in water, starting to swim on their own.
Times:  Monday 4:30 – 5:00pm

Starfish:

Age: 3-5 years of age
Attendee: Children who can swim a little on their own.
Times: Monday 11:00-11:30am OR Wednesday 5:00-5:30pm

Pike:

Age: 3-5 years of age
Attendee: For children able to swim the width of the pool without assistance, doing front crawl and one width of back crawl.
Times: Monday 4:30 – 5:00pm or Wednesday 4:00 – 4:30pm

Youth Swim Classes Ages Kindergarten & up:

Polliwog:
Attendee: For beginners with little or no swimming skills.

Times:   Tuesday 10-10:30am OR Wednesday 5:00-5:30pm

Guppy:
Times: Tuesday 10:30-11:00am OR Wednesday 5:30-6:00pm
Attendee: For those comfortable in the deep end on their own who will be learning the front crawl with rotary breathing as well as backstroke.

Pre-Minnow:
Times: Monday 5:00 – 5:30pm
Attendee: For those who can do front crawl with rotary breathing & back stroke the length of the pool.

Minnow:
Times: Wednesday 5:00 – 5:30pm
Attendee: For those who can do one lap each of front crawl with rotary breathing, back crawl & elementary back stroke.

Pre-Fish:
Times: Wednesday 5:30 – 6:00pm
Attendee: For those who can do two laps of front crawl, back stroke & elementary back stroke as well as one length of breast stroke.

Fish:
Times: Wednesday 5:30 – 6:00pm
Attendee: For those who can do two laps of the front crawl, back stroke, elementary back stroke & one lap breast stroke.

Flying Fish:
Times:  Wednesday 6:00 – 6:30pm

Attendee: For those who can do the breast stroke and have endurance for four laps each of front crawl, back crawl & elementary back stroke.

Shark/Porpoise:
Times:  Wednesday 6:00 – 6:30pm

Attendee: For those who can do one lap of the butterfly, individual medley & racing turns.

The Geary Family YMCA of Fostoria will once again be hosting our annual Splash to learn swim program May 30th – June 2nd, 2017. This is a chance for kids in grades K-5 who have little or no swimming skills to get a jump on summer with free swimming lessons. The kids will come to the Y for 4 consecutive days at the same time each day. They will be taught the basics of beginner swimming along with water safety and rescue. You must pre-register at the YMCA courtesy counter by Thursday, May 25th, no exceptions! Class sizes are limited. Contact Helen Pearson, Aquatics Coordinator with any questions at 419-435-6608.

Grades: K-5
Times:  3:45-4:30pm, 4:30-5:15pm or 5;15-6:00pm
Free to public on a first come first basis, classes fill up fast
