Fee: Y-Members are $10  Non-Members are $42. If a non-member joins we will put $32.00 towards their membership fees.

Infant/Toddler Classes:

The Geary Family YMCA offers a wide range of skill level classes for infants and toddlers based on their abilities. Your child can build skills and advance through the levels of accomplishment to become a strong swimmer.

Please bring your child to the specific classes they are signed up for. Bringing them at other times may overcrowd an already full class .

All swim lessons have the following 5 components:

  • Personal Safety
  • Stroke Development
  • Personal Growth
  • Water Sports
  • Games and Rescues

Perch/Shrimp: 

No swim skills for ages 6 months to 36 months. A fun class for parents & children to familiarize children with the water, promote family enrichment & bonding, & water safety. Parent or guardian must accompany each child in the water.
Times: Monday 5:30-6:00pm

Eels:

Beginning swim level for ages 3-5. Must be comfortable without parent. Children will learn general pool safety & how to paddle the width of the pool on their stomach & kicking across on their back. A swim belt is used to help the child feel comfortable in the water, all while gaining self-confidence.
Times: Monday 10:30am – 11:00am OR Eel/Rays combo 4:00-4:30pm

Rays:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              

Intermediate swim level for ages 3-5 years of old. Must be comfortable without parent. Progression lesson after completing Eel. Children will learn general pool safety & how to paddle the width of the pool on their stomach & kicking across on their back. A swim belt is sometimes used to help child feel comfortable in the water, all while gaining self-confidence.
Times:  Monday 4:30 pm – 5:00pm OR Wednesday (Eel/Ray combo) 5:30pm – 6:00pm

Starfish:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      

Advanced beginner swimming skills. Must be confident in the water without a personal flotation device. If a child has obtained the Eel & Rays class skills, & is comfortable jumping in without a flotation device, then the child is ready for Starfish. Goals are to swim the width of the pool on their stomachs & backs with no assistance & some stroke development with rotary breathing.
Times: Monday 11:00-11:30am OR Monday 5:00-5:30pm

Pike:

Advanced swim skills. This is for those who are comfortable swimming across the pool without flotations device with a strong stroke to begin rotary breathing & backstroking the length of the pool.
Times: Monday 5:00 – 5:30pm OR Wednesday 6:00pm – 6:30pm

Youth Swim Classes Ages 6 & up:

Polliwog:

Beginning swim skills. This class teaches the basic skills of floating, kicking and reaching/pulling while teaching pool safety & gaining self-confidence. Wet ball, synchronized skills. CPR is introduced.
Times:   Monday 4:00pm – 4:30pm OR Wednesday 4:00pm – 4:30pm OR Wednesday 5:00pm – 5:30pm

Guppy:

Intermediate beginning swim skills. Youth must be confident swimming a length of the pool before registering for Guppy class. This class teaches rotary breathing, back crawl & refines the front crawl while learning safety precautions, water sports, synchronized swim skills & diving. CPR is ongoing.                                                                                                                                                           Times: Monday 4:30pm – 5:00pm OR Wednesday 5:00 – 5:30pm

Minnow:

Advanced swim skills. Youth must be confident swimming multiple lengths of the pool as this class teaches endurance, refines the front & back crawl & continues the emphasis of water safety skills. The breast stroke is introduced along with elementary backstroke & synchronized swim, as well as introduced to diving off the starting blocks.                                                                           Times: Wednesday 4:00pm – 4;30pm

Fish:

Advanced swim skills. Youth will improve stroke development as well as dives for technique. Swimmers will also work on swimming continuously for 100 yards & the importance of teamwork. Times: Wednesday 4:30pm – 5:00pm

Flying Fish/Shark:

Advanced swim skills. Youth will be refining the four competitive strokes (freestyle, back stroke, breast & butterfly) & encouraging endurance while promoting personal growth. Class also teaches flip turns & dives from block starts.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Times:  Wednesday 4:30pm – 5:00pm

 

splash with confidenceSplash! Learn to Swim

The Geary Family YMCA of Fostoria will once again be hosting our annual Splash to learn swim program May 30th – June 2nd, 2017. This is a chance for kids in grades K-5 who have little or no swimming skills to get a jump on summer with free swimming lessons. The kids will come to the Y for 4 consecutive days at the same time each day. They will be taught the basics of beginner swimming along with water safety and rescue. You must pre-register at the YMCA courtesy counter by Thursday, May 25th, no exceptions! Class sizes are limited. Contact Senior Program Director & Aquatics with any questions at 419-435-6608.

Times:  3:45-4:30pm, 4:30-5:15pm or 5;15-6:00pm
Free to public on a first come first basis, classes fill up fast
