Aquatic Classes for Youth

 

Choose from our wide list of aquatic classes:

SWIM LESSONS ARE FREE TO YMCA MEMBERS!

NON-MEMBERS $ 45.00

INFANT/TODDLER CLASSES:

The Geary Family YMCA offers a wide range of skill level classes for infants and toddlers based on their abilities. Your child can build skills and advance through the levels of accomplishment to become a strong swimmer. 

Please bring your child to the specific classes they are signed up for. Bringing them at other times may overcrowd an already full class.

All swim lessons have the following 5 components:

  • Personal Safety,
  • Stroke Development,
  • Personal Growth,
  • Water Sports
  • Games and Rescues.

 

Parent/Child Preschool Swim Program

Ages 6 months -5 years

Perch/Shrimp: 

6 months -3 years of age.

This is a parent/child class. Parent must accompany child in the water.
Times:    Mon. 6:00-6:30pm,  Tues. 10:00-10:30am

Eels: 

3-5 years of age.  

Times:     Mon. 10:30-11:00am; 5:00-5:30pm,

               Wed. 4:00-4:30pm

Parents are not required in the pool. This class is for beginners who are cautious around the water.


Rays: 

3-5 years of age

Times: Mon. 10:00-10:30am; 5:00-5:30pm,

           Wed. 4:00-4:30pm

Children who are comfortable in water but do not yet swim.


Starfish:  

3-5 years of age

Times:    Mon. 11:00-11:30am,

              Tue. 9:30-10:00am,

              Wed. 6:00-6:30pm

Children who can swim a little on their own.


Pike: 

3-5 years of age 

Times:  Mon. 11:00-11:30am,

            Wed. 4:30-5:00pm

Children who swim across the pool on their stomach and backs and are ready to learn rotary breathing and backstroke.


Youth /Adult Swim Classes

(Ages Kindergarten and up)

Beginning Mighty Might’s:  

Times:  Mon. 4:00-4:30pm,

            Wed. 11:00-11:30am,

            Thur. 5:00-5:30pm

Designed for children with little or no swimming skills.


Intermediate Mighty Might’s:  

Times:  Mon. 4:00-4:30pm,

            Wed. 5:00-5:30pm

K-1st grade children that can swim across the pool on their stomachs and backs and are deep end comfortable.

Advanced Mighty Might’s  


Times:     Mon. 5:00-5:30pm


K-1st grade children with emphasis placed on rotary breathing and backstroke the length of the pool.


Polliwog:  

Times: Mon. 4:30-5:00pm,

           Wed. 9:30-10:00am, 5:30-6:00pm

           

Designed for 2nd grade and up children with little or no swimming skills.


Guppy:  

Times:    Mon. 4:30-5:00pm, 

              Wed. 10:00-10:30am, 4:30-5:00pm

            

2nd grade and up children who are comfortable in the deep end and will be learning the front crawl with rotary breathing as well as backstroke.

Minnow: 

Times:  Mon. 5:30-6:00pm,

            Wed. 10:00-10:30am

2nd grade and up children who will be perfecting the crawl and backstroke, swimming longer distances and diving.


Fish:  

Time:   Mon. 5:30-6:00pm,

           Wed. 10:30-11:00am

Designed for 2nd grade children who will learn breast stroke, rescue techniques, the proper use of mask, snorkel and fins.


Flying Fish:  

Time:     Wed.  11:00-11:30am, 4:30-5:00pm

Designed for 2nd grade and up children will learn the butterfly stroke, individual medley and the 3 step hurdle dive.

Shark/Porpoise:  

Time:     Wed. 10:30-11:00am, 5:30-6:00pm

2nd and up children who are learning competitive starts, turns and more advanced lifesaving techniques as well as distance swimming.
